9.7 inch Onda Vi40 Elite tablet sees official introduction, hitting our stores early January

Onda Vi40 Elite 1

How much do you think that tablet in the window costs? Yes, that one with 9.7-inch flat-panel screen and Ice Cream Sandwich on board? Tough to know, but it could be the Onda Vi40 Elite you’re looking at. And maybe those rumors we heard about the new flagship Vi40 elite flouncing 1.2GHz Qualcomm CPU could be true. We’ll wait and see. In the meantime, the tablet released should fit at ease between the 5 and 10-inch variants of more slates expected to come in the first Q2 of 2012.

The Onda Vi40 Elite should accommodate your chunk of files; thanks to 8GB hard disk capacity, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory together with 32 GB microSD support, an IPS screen with 1,024 x 768 resolution, dual cameras in the rear and front, and built-in 6500mAh high capacity battery with a running time of 7.5 hours. At a thickness of 5.4mm; slightly thinner than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Toshiba Thrive as well. We hope to nab the tablet by at least the end of January 2012, but those impatient folks with healthy pockets should be ready to cough at least something between Yuan 1099.00 – 1262.00 and additional shipping costs. But if you’d rather wait for that perfect time to ring in 2012 nestled up to a fresh gadget with no shipping charges including some hot hot hands on video, we’ve got you covered.

  • Whatis

    Hi there,

    1) On your website you state that there are some “minor bugs” with the current version of Android 4. Can you please specify exactly what these minor bugs are.
    2) Do you have a case available for this tablet yet?

    • Anonymous

      1) I would call it more software optimization, in the sense that I feel that the speed of the unit can be greatly improved
      2)not yet, thanks

  • Jollygreengiant69

I’ve bought one pre-order. Yesterday I’ve been told that it does not support official android market and they can not get it installed. Anyone heard similar news – the supplier is trying to sell me something else now.

Hi like alot of the taablets on the first firmware it does not support it, however shortly after on the next update it does support it, I hope that helps, thanks

  • ICSHA

It looks good on paper, but if you see youtube videos, it lags like hell..I wish it would run better, because I really like the design and price.

    • Anonymous

Hi yes on the first firmware it lags a bit, however we’re confident its software related , so this should be improved on the next firmware update

    • Ivan

smart money says the new firmware update will fix the bugs and better utilize the 1.5ghz processor, with big reductions in lag. Any idea when this update will be available?

      • Anonymous

Hi I have no idea but I do hope its soon as this CPU does have good potential and its devices are quite affordable, thanks

  • abd

does the new firmware in the onda website for onda vi40 include android market?

    • Anonymous

      thanks

  • Ivan

I have similar concerns to those already voiced re Android Market access and current limited firmware affecting performance of the tablet. Could you please clarify if possible :

    1. When will the new firmware update be available and how will it be disseminated ? i.e how will it be available to download / upload on to devices already purchased?

    2. Will this new update guarantee access to full Android market? What other improvements can be expected?

I really want one of these tablets but these doubts are currently holding me back from making a purchase. Thanks in advance for your reply

    • Anonymous

Hi I understand your concern if you look at the post above, one poster sent a link to a firmware and hardware acceleration update that is already in the works
      2. It will have the market access update however I can guarentee when and the improvements as it currently does not have it, mostlikely on the next firmware though

      thanks and take care

    http://www.onda.cn/Mp3/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductId=179
    No Android Market support, though…

    Regards

  • Toly75

In ONDA’s site there are two firmware updates to android 4.03:
    1. The first is for (version V1 models only)
    2. The second is for (for V3 version of the model)
Do you know the differences between these two versions (Maybe it’s the hardware enhancement they talked about yesterday in:
    http://tech.163.com/digi/12/0117/13/7NVN2VPO001664LU.html)

If so, How Is it possible to know that you send the newer (V3 version) one?

    Regards

Where is the video review of onda Vi40?

  • Renderinfo

I ordered one Vi40 from you guys, I can’t wait to get it.  I too am curious whether I am receiving the V1 or V3 for firmware update purposes (Onda.cn does have two firmware download links for the Vi40).  I know you probably won’t ship until Feb 2nd, but if you guys are going to preload the latest firmware before shipping, that would truly be GREAT!  Thanks for everything!
