Ainol NOVO 8: yet another 8-inch slate to stuff your openhanded pockets
Following the footsteps of the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, we have yet another alternative for enthusiasts of sizeable tablets: the Ainol NOVO 8, a clear follow-up to the initial Ainol. In fact, this 8-inch Android 2.3 tablet was mentioned sometime back in June and we thought it was to be launched somewhere in October. However, the Ainol folks were still hesitant to shed light on its definite availability (pun intended). It certainly makes one question if any retailer has gone for it. Don’t fret, we already have!
Already smiling at our growing shelves, here’s the breakdown: the 12.7mm-thick package sports a 1280×768 non-IPS LCD including a capacitive touchscreen, adorned with Cortex A9 CPU Amlogic 800Mhz CPU + Mali 400GPU, 512MB of DDR2 Ram, 16GB Nandflash built in, extend memory up to 32GB via micro sd card, a 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera, equally 0.3 megapixel rear camera, a generous 4000mAh battery (4-6 hours running time) and, of course, powerful multimedia playback that supports 1080p videos and HDMI output as well. Notwithstanding the soon-obsolete Android OS version, the UI reaction on the new Ainol didn’t disappoint at all; its body felt solid too. See our nippy hands-on video after the picture break.
Alternatively, and as aforementioned (above) there’s also Ainol’ 7-inch advanced Gingerbread-powered tablet (yes, advanced Gingerbread). In the meantime, feel free to check out this prudish device after the video break, if it’s necessary to do so.
