Onda’s Vi20W Android PMP shells Rockchip internals, Flash 10.3

Onda Vi20W

An Italian company that specializes in mobile phones manufacture, Onda Communication – just unveiled its new tablet PC dubbed the Vi20W. Outside China, we haven’t witness much of Rockchip’s 600MHz, RK2808 CPU at least in the arena of mobile devices; and while we’re not utterly convinced that this particular accomplishment will ever favor our retail shelves, it is exciting to see that such semi-working  prototype is on the offering…. at least somewhere. The Vi20W stands between a PMP and a tablet, housing the same composition as the Onda’s previous Vi10 – although as for this one it was a bit stretched to a seven-inch screen. Inside, it runs that Rockchip processor powering an Android 2.3 Gingerbread already installed.

The product can brag of the presence of a powerful 1 GHz processor ARM Cortex-A8 (Rockchip RK2918), 512MB DDR, 8GB Nandflash built in and has a memory card slot for microSD (up to 32 GB). The tablet can be run satisfactorily even with applications built based on Adobe Flash 10.2. In addition to its built-in flash media, Onda Vi20W can play 1080p video; suffice with a 3G-receiver, support USB On-The-Go (OTG), and with an inclusion of an HDMI port, means ( DVD-audio and SACD support as well). From our digging in, connectivity comes courtesy of Wifi 802.11b/g or 3G, when built in battery could last up to 6 hrs via wifi, 35 hrs audio time, 8 hrs video. To this point, we can only sum up this as a budget friendly tablet that will only appeal to price-conscious apprentices.
